The journey towards parenthood when you're struggling with infertility can be a long and arduous one, with many obstacles and challenges along the way. What makes this journey particularly difficult is that once you've started on it, you've no idea when it will end or what twists and turns it may take. There will be times when you're trying for a baby that you have given it every ounce of energy you have, perhaps to go through fertility treatment, only to receive the ultimate knock back of a negative pregnancy test and realise the journey must start all over again.
How can you pick yourself help to do this? What if you don't feel strong enough to start over again? (and again, and again?..)
As a fertility therapist, I often first meet people when they feel they have reached the end of the line. They know they want to go on, and do whatever it takes to become a parent, but they feel physically and emotionally spent. Perhaps if they knew there would have a successful pregnancy *this time* it would be easier to keep going, but with no guarantees it can feel impossible to find the strength to go on.
So how can you get yourself back into the right mindset?
EFT (or Tapping) is the ideal tool to use when you want to switch your negative, despairing thoughts back to positive and hopeful. The best way to do this is to voice how you feel out loud while tapping all the EFT points. Don't worry about structured wording; just say what you're feeling while tapping all the points.

Although the words you use should be personal to you, here are some suggestions.
Set up phrases while tapping the KC point:
"Even though I have no strength to go on and I feel like giving up, I deeply and completely accept myself".
"Even though I don't want to try again as I can't bear the disappointment, I deeply and completely accept myself".
"Even though I have nothing left in me to give to this fertility struggle, I deeply and completely accept myself"
Then tap and say:
Top of head: "I can't go on"
Eyebrow: "I have no more energy to give this struggle"
Side of eye: "I can't face any more knock backs"
Under eye: "I don't want to fail again"
Under nose: "So I feel like giving up completely"
Chin: "I've taken as much disappointment as I can bear"
Collarbone: "I've reached the end of the line"
Under arm: "I wish I could go on, but it seems too hard"
Now try a tapping round with positive statements:
Top of head: "I could look at what the next step is"
Eyebrow: "I don't have to commit to it just yet"
Side of eye: "There may be other options open to me"
Under eye: "Can I look after myself if we keep going?"
Under nose: "I choose to keep focussed on the end goal of a family"
Chin: "I can find inner strength to keep going"
Collarbone: "I look to the future with hope and peace"
Under arm: "I am ready to see what's ahead for us next"
Feel free to use the above words exactly as they are written, or change them to fit how you are feeling. The most important thing to remember when tapping is to speak the words that you are feeling. Get all the feelings out and then use the tapping to neutralise the emotions and switch them to more rational, calm thoughts.
